Udong was the ancient Cambodian capital from the latter stages of the Khmer Empire, and crowning site of the Kings. It is located atop two parallel ridges 40 kilometers north of Phnom Penh. |
|
Udong offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside with innumerable sugar palm trees punctuating the countryside. King Ang Doung, the great grandfather of the present King, King Sihanouk, was crowned here. Many local and foreign residents picnic at this historical location on weekends. |
